Mood disorders are a group of mental illnesses that affect a person's emotional state. Theycause extreme feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or mania. Mood disorders can impact daily life and quality of life. 

Types of Mood Disorders:

  • Depressive disorders: Includes major depression, seasonal affective disorder, persistent depressive disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder 
  • Bipolar disorders: Involve episodes of mania, or extreme mood elevation, and depression 

Symptoms:

  • Feeling worthless or guilty
  • Having suicidal thoughts or behaviors
  • Feeling irritable, hopeless, or uninterested in activities
  • Having trouble sleeping or concentrating
  • Having changes in appetite
